From seven different countries of the Southern African region comes a unique collection of films. Positive, provocative, humourous, braveĀ - unusual stories about how individuals are confronting their lives and how societies are having to change under the impact of HIV/AIDS. Stories which affirm that actually, life is a beautiful thing . . .
This collection includes narrative documentaries, music videos, experimental films, short films, investigative stories and even sexy public service announcements. All the films were made with the support of the most experienced producers from the region together with the professional guidance from some of the best documentary filmmakers and commissioning editors in the world. Just for professional support and training we invested over US$ 200 000.
The films, selected from more than 200 proposals, were ready for delivery in October 2001 and were broadcast around World AIDS Day, 1st December 2001. In our collection are several 52-minute documentaries, some made by award winning directors like Brian Tilley and Licinio Azevedo, others by the new generation of young Southern African filmmakers such as Dumisani Phakathi, Khalo Matabane, Beverley Ditsie and Cecil Moller.
Among the professional supporters who worked over periods of one to five weeks with the filmmakers are Jennifer Fox, Nina Kellgren, Jakob Hogel, Nick Fraser, Erez Laufer, Christoph Joerg, Mette Hoffman-Meyer, Iikka Vehkalahti, Diane Weyermann, Niels Pagh Anderson, and Jacob Thuesen.
